PRINCIPAL DUTIES
  1. Identifies the skill sets of all Oahu and neighbor island staff, establishes individualized development plans, and provides appropriate training to ensure competency of staff.
  2. Directly oversees and supervises the Oahu QC Supervisor and staff and provides support for all Technicians statewide.
  3. Facilitates the flow of information (submittals, certifications, mix designs, and correspondence) between QC Lab and Company operations, customers, and agencies.
  4. Proactively solves problems by involving the appropriate parties, incorporating/utilizing the tools of process improvement.
  5. Establishes and maintains relationships to foster effective problem-solving with project designers, government agencies, and customers.
  6. Maintains current knowledge of aggregate, paving, and asphalt plant processes. Evaluates and reviews all technical specifications and makes appropriate recommendations for proper material usage, HMA mixes, and performance.
  7. Researches and develops new products and methods to augment the asphalt paving process.
  8. Obtains education, training or outside assistance necessary to be a competent resource to the company in understanding and communicating present and future construction materials specifications.
  9. romotes awareness of and follows Company and general safety policies.
  10. Exhibits a core understanding of mutual respect and good customer service orientation in interactions with all people in the workplace.
PRINCIPAL REQUIREMENTS
  1. Bachelor’s degree in engineering or NICET Level IV certification; or 15 years of related experience in hot-mix asphalt quality control, including supervision of technical staff.
  2. Certifications: If an Engineer
    1. EIT Certificate
    2. Nuclear Gauge and RSO Certification
    3. Mix Design Certification from the Asphalt Institute for Marshall and Superpave designs
    4. NICET Level IV, if not an engineer
    5. Army Corps of Engineers CQC / CQM or equivalent
      1. Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Email and adapt to in-house software. Keyboarding skills sufficient to complete tasks in a timely manner.
      2. Excellent math aptitude to perform daily tasks and identify discrepancies in calculations.
      3. Must be able to read and understand job requirements and specifications and related technical information, equipment, and environmental requirements/specs/regulations.
      4. Able to read blueprints helpful.
      5. Valid Hawaii driver’s license and favorable traffic abstract.
      6. Excellent interpersonal/organizational/documentation skills.
      7. Must be at least 21 years of age.
