PRINCIPAL DUTIES
  1. Diagnoses mechanical, electrical, air and hydraulic problems in rolling stock equipment to identify and perform necessary repairs, i.e. CAT, Hitachi/JD, Cummins, & other mobile equipment.
  2. Performs general overhaul and repair work on equipment with diesel, gasoline, or air engines.
  3. Performs adjustments and repairs to brakes, transmissions, ignition and lighting systems, cooling and heating systems, and air and hydraulic systems.
  4. Performs structural repair and fabrication employing a variety of welding techniques with a variety of metal specifications.
  5. Diagnoses and performs emergency repairs on mobile equipment.
  6. Communicates with Superintendent and co-workers on diagnosis and repairs. Provide accurate repair timelines. Provides part requisitions in a timely manner.
  7. Prepares legible written reports and records as directed by supervisor.
  8. Complies with all OSHA and MSHA regulations, Company hazard and safety regulations, and pertinent DOT regulations.
  9. Performs other duties as directed. May be required to perform repairs to crushing/screening plants and facilities as needed/qualified.
PRINCIPAL REQUIREMENTS
  1. 10 years previous experience in heavy equipment repair in a mine or similar type operation. Experience with CAT & Hitachi mobile equipment preferred.
  2. Proficiency with Cummins INSIGHT, CAT ET (Electronic Technician), and GM and Ford Diagnostics Computer systems to conduct research for parts and diagnostics preferred.
  3. Able to read and understand parts/service/instruction manuals. Submit accurate parts requisition forms.
  4. Able to read hydraulic/electrical schematics for heavy equipment.
  5. Able to work in outdoor conditions with varying temperatures and weather. Also, able to work around constant or intermittent noise at levels which will need hearing protection.
  6. Provide mechanics hand tools and sufficient tooling to perform repairs and adjustments on large mobile equipment as outlined in CBA.
  7. Attend training classes to maintain certifications (i.e. welding, crane, MSHA) and willing to acquire new skills as technology changes with equipment
  8. Valid Hawaii Type 3 driver’s license and favorable traffic abstract; CDL preferred.
  9. Good organizational skills.
  10. Must be a team player, work in unison with peers and management.
  11. MSHA, Crane, and Welding (AWS D1.1 SMAW 3G&4G Combo Welding) Certifications preferred.
  12. Able to work flexible hours (starting time/shifts). May include nights, weekends, holidays, overtime.
