POSITION TITLE: Construction Engineer

  1. Reviews all project documents and compares them against estimates used to bid the project. Collaborates with the project Superintendent(s) to analyze the data reflected on the bid and to adjust the data as necessary to ensure that actual costs conform to the project budget.
  2. Tracks costs daily for each on-going project and thoroughly notes gross discrepancies in order to reconcile month-end reporting. Assumes responsibility for the positive outcome of all projects in order to maximize the revenue generated by each project.
  3. Reviews all plan documents to certify project-specific materials, determine appropriate material quantities, and initiate acquisition and delivery of material to coincide with the project schedule.
  4. Prepares and executes all change orders for on-going projects.
  5. Effectively collaborates with clients, Superintendent(s) and office staff to ensure that crews, equipment and material are sufficiently available to meet project demands and deadlines.
  6. Reviews incoming bids to gather quantity take-offs, material quotes from vendors and/or subcontractors, and production rates from Superintendent(s) and other internal support groups who may be impacted.
  7. Utilizes the department’s automated bidding system to enter data and produce final estimates in a timely manner in accordance with the department’s established bidding strategy.
  8. Delegates tasks, as necessary, with thorough and clear instructions, to support established deadlines. Assumes responsibility for ensuring that all tasks delegated are completed accurately and timely.
  9. Assists with preparation of bids and estimates.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.
  11. Promotes awareness of and follows Company and general safety policies.
  12. Exhibits a core understanding of mutual respect and good customer service orientation in interactions with all people in the workplace.
  1. Civil engineering degree preferred.
  2. 0-5 years in Construction experience, preferably in project management and/or estimating for public works projects.
  3. Proficiency in Excel, Word, Email. Experience with Bid-To-Win helpful. Aptitude to learn in-house systems.
  4. Math aptitude for engineering calculations and financial application and interpretation.
  5. Reading skills to comprehend the full scope of project contracts, technical information relative to project materials, and legal requirements.
  6. Ability to read blueprints desired
  7. Valid Hawaii driver’s license and favorable traffic abstract.
  8. Excellent interpersonal/organizational/documentation skills.
  9. Able to work independently and work flexible hours to meet deadlines on a consistent basis.
  10. Able to determine when to delegate tasks and communicate instructions in an appropriate manner.
