JOB INFORMATION
POSITION TITLE: Asphalt Spreader Operator -1A
DEPARTMENT: Paving
LOCATION: Kauai
REPORTS TO: Island Manager

PRINCIPAL DUTIES
  1. Operates asphalt paving machine used for applying HMA to road beds, parking lots, or airport runways and taxiways.
  2. Operate paving machine to spread, smooth, level asphalt (HMA) on road beds.
  3. Coordinate truck dumping.
  4. Fill hoppers with paving materials.
  5. Observe distribution of paving material to adjust machine settings or material flow, and indicate low spots for workers to add material.
  6. Control paving machine to push dump trucks and to maintain a constant flow of asphalt material into hoppers or screeds.
  7. Light burners or start electrical heating units of machines and regulates screed temperatures and asphalt flow rates.
  8. Inspect, clean, maintain, and report malfunctions to supervisors through completion of Pre-trip Inspection Form.
  9. Follows DOT, OSHA, and Company & Safety regulations and policies
PRINCIPAL REQUIREMENTS
  1. High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  2. 10 years paving experience, knowledge of asphalt mix designs, automation systems, and required paving speeds, familiarity with asphalt temperature, movement and various finished surfaces.
  3. Ability to rake, operate the screed and see the crown and swales in the pavement.
  4. Ability to read, write, and complete equipment reports.
  5. CDL Type B preferred and favorable traffic abstract.
  6. Ability to work flexible hours, overtime, nights, holidays, weekends as required by jobs.
  7. Ability to work as a team member.
  8. Must be at least 21 years of age.
